The Moslem faithful in the Western Balkans are celebrating the holiday known as Ramazan Bayram in the region and as Eid al-Fitr in other parts of the world, marking the end of a month of fasting.
The day started with morning prayers at 04:30 am in mosques in Serbia with public festivities afterwards, visits to family and friends and exchanges of gifts with the traditional greeting – Bayram sherif mubarek olsun.
The Ramazan Bayram always falls on the 1st day of the 10th month of the lunar calendar used in Islam and lasts three days.
The heads of Islamic communities in the region, traditionally have messages for the faithful called Hutbe.
