Bosnia’s Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Minister Mirko Sarovic told N1 the Turkish election results were expected and that the Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s victory will prove good for Bosnia’s economic interests.
“For me, personally, these results were expected considering I am well informed of the situation in Turkey because of my frequent travels and our economic relations with that country. I expect the situation in the country to further stabilize,” Sarovic said. “It will probably take several months before the election results are implemented considering they are crossing over to the new, presidential system. This will definitely suit our economic interests in Bosnia.”
He said he focussed on the economic cooperation with Turkey considering the Ministry he heads. Turkey is an important economic partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and it is currently in the top six Bosnian foreign trade partners. In the Future, the goal is for Turkey to enter the top 5 partners.
The Minister expects the signing of a new trade agreement which will open new possibilities for Bosnia. He also expects the Turkish Lira to stabilize, which would suit Bosnian farmers since some exports agreements were concluded in the Turkish Lira.
When it comes to the burning issue of migrants in Bosnia, Sarovic said the issue of migrants is being used for the creation of daily political affairs. Some politicians are also trying to spread fear among the public. The migrant crisis was far greater in Serbia and Montenegro than in Bosnia. Serbia saw some 500,000 migrants during the crisis and it handled the situation better than Bosnia which saw only five to six thousand migrants who do not even want to stay in the country.
This situation, he said, suits only those who wish to spread false information about changes to the ethnic structure of Bosnia.
