Head of EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina Lars-Wigemark met in Mostar with Bosnia’s Croat Presidency Member Dragan Covic to discuss the current political situation in the country and exchange opinions on the state of reforms in the country.
In a friendly atmosphere, Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency member pointed to the necessity of finding a solution for the change of the state Election Law, which would guarantee full equality of all constituent peoples, with consistent application of the principle of legitimate representation at all levels of government.
He added that all the relevant State Constitutional Court decisions on this matter must be respected and implemented.
Interlocutors used this opportunity to express regret that there was no timely solution for the maintenance of the Mostar local election.
In the end, Covic expressed clear commitment and optimism regarding the implementation of further reform activities which are vital for Bosnia’s European future.
Bosnian politicians and lawmakers have been struggling for two years now to amend the Election Law in a way that would implement the Constitutional Court's decision, which two years ago assessed as unconstitutional certain provisions of the law that refers to equal and proportional representation of peoples in the FBiH Parliament.
