Bosnia’s Prime Minister wrote his Croatian counterpart on Monday, protesting construction of a bridge over Bosnia’s waters and claiming Croatia showed no interest in the two countries resolving their border issues.

Construction officially began Monday despite the official stance of Bosnia, international law, and good practice for the sake of neighbourly relations, Chairman of Bosnia’s Council of Ministers, Denis Zvizdic, said.

The letter states that Bosnia’s Presidency on March 3, 2007, declared its stance on the bridge dependent on resolution of the border issue. Zvizdic pointed out that Croatia had consistently only informed Bosnia of aspects of the construction, and selectively interpreted facts, in its own favour.

The Bosniak member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency said on Monday that the construction of the bridge represents a "flagrant breach of Bosnia’s sovereignty", and announced he may submit a lawsuit against the country.

When asked about the potential lawsuit, Croatia’s Maritime Affairs Minister, Oleg Butkovic, said "that is not my level", and that everyone should be happy that the construction has started.
