Enthusiasts enjoy the Perseids meteor shower in Bosnia

One can rarely see a meteor shower, but that is exactly what locals in remote areas, with little light pollution, could see on Saturday night.

A group of enthusiasts watched the so-called Perseids meteor shower in Miljevina, a village near the southeastern town of Foca. They chose the area because the lay of the land, which is ridden with rock formations, contributes to the beauty of the phenomenon.

Among those watching the phenomenon were Marjeta Trobis, from Slovenia, Brett Kistler, from the US and Miralem Sehic, from Bosnia.

“I am here because of the stars. We watch shooting stars for several years already. Now we had the chance to do it in Bosnia. I have to say that it is truly beautiful here,” Trobis said.

Kistler said he traveled all the way across the Atlantic Ocean to explore and gaze at the stars in Bosnia, and this also gave him a chance to spend quality time with friends.

Sehic said he is interested in the phenomenon since high school.

“I decided to come here to Miljevina to see this exciting and interesting natural phenomenon,” he said.

Meteors, or shooting stars, are composed of rock and dust which heats up in the earth’s atmosphere as it descends.
