LDP: RS President is the biggest threat to peace

Serbia’s Liberal Democratic Party said that Bosnia’s Serb-dominated Republika Srpska (RS) entity President Milorad Dodik “became the biggest threat to peace” after his most recent statements about borders in the Balkans.

Dodik is talking about borders, divisions and Serb national interests again as if such politics didn’t already cost us too much, so now we need to relive that hell,” the party said.

According to them, every pre-election campaign that is based on nationalist rhetoric and every mandate that is won through such rhetoric “ends up in conflict.” The region needs peace and not politicians “who base their existence in current functions on failed ideas of extreme Serb Nationalism.”

The LDP recalled that the RS National Assembly rejected the report on the suffering of Bosniaks in Srebrenica and that Dodik “proclaimed himself the protector of all Serbs in the region” and that he promotes the revival of the idea of “‘Greater Serbia’ with the intent to resolve the Kosovo issue and the status of the RS and to solve the issue of Serbs living in countries where they are a national minority.”

“Instead of protecting the interests of Serb minorities through conflict, we need to fight for the right of Serb minorities to have the treatment provided by the laws of the countries they live n and that they are realising their rights in line with their own, individual interests,” the LDP concluded.
