According to Bloomberg's latest annual tourism growth ranking, Bosnia was placed ninth out of the top 10 European destinations. Sarajevo, Mostar and Kravice are just some of the destinations recognised as tourist attractions.
Visiting the old town and taking photos for memories is a must for everyone who visits Sarajevo. Searching the town for tourists, N1 found a group of students from Moldova.
“It’s great! This is my second time here and I brought students to see the city as well. This is a fantastic place. The food is fantastic! The people are good and the food is even better,” said Robert, a teacher from Texas.
“I like it. It’s a very beautiful city, I’m having a great time,” said Julia from Moldova.
Rich history, architecture and beautiful nature are some of the reasons why almost 400,000 tourists came to visit Sarajevo in the first eight months of 2018, alone. It is almost the same number of tourists as in previous year. The number of tourists is growing, as is the number of overnights.
“It’s a big combination; we’re like a big chain. Guests arriving in Sarajevo will also visit Mostar, Herzegovina, and then go to Travnik and Bihac… It all depends on where the guests are coming from,” Raza Mesanovic from the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board told N1. “in the first eight months of 2018, Sarajevo was visited mostly by tourists from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China and Croatia.”
Bosnia’s cultural heritage and its digitalisation are in the focus of this year’s campaign of the World Tourism Organisation, which is a chance for the growth, and development of Bosnia’s tourism.
The city of Mostar has also recorded a growth in the number of tourists visiting this destination. Its cultural and historic heritage, the Old Bridge, the rivers of Neretva and Buna are all inviting tourists from around the world to come and visit this beautiful place.
“We’ve, definitely, become a recognisable brand in the tourism market. The tourists are spending more time here and the tourist offer is a lot better than what it used to be,” Semir Temim form the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Tourist Board.
