Migrant smugglers targeted by Bosnia's border police

Bosnia's law enforcement agencies have launched an operation in major cities Tuesday morning against the persons involved in smuggling of migrants, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed.

The officers of Bosnia's Border Police have conducted raids at several locations in the cities of Sarajevo and Mostar within the operation codenamed “Centar” involving the persons suspected of smuggling the migrants originating mostly from India, Pakistan and Iran.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the migrants were transferred from Serbia and Montenegro through Bosnia and further towards the European Union countries. Reportedly, the smugglers were charging up to EUR 4,000 per transfer of one person.

50 cases of the migrant smuggling have been recorded by now and among the suspects were Bosnia's nationals as well as the foreigners who were introducing themselves as migrants in order to easily establish the contact with true migrants, said the Prosecutor's Office.
