Regional nephrologists agreed to award Sarajevo-based scientist Halima Resic with 'Pioneer Award' for her contribution to the development of nephrology in eastern and central Europe.

The International Society of Nephrologists (ISN) hands out the award every year based on a proposal of nephrologists in a given region. This year, Resic received the most votes in the central and eastern Europe region.

“This is a recognition for all nephrologists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this is not only an award to me as an individual but to the nephrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Resic.

She stressed it was a motive for her future work.

“I am happy that the efforts I invested over the past years were rewarded. This is an excellent basis for future generations of nephrologists, and a motive for them to advance so that their names appear on the list of this worthy recognition,” Resic noted.

Bosnia is following global trends in this branch of science, according to her, but it still lacks the support of relevant bodies and financial sources.

“A broader society should do more on that,” she said.
