Sarajevo Canton authorities declared on Friday a “warning” episode and called on citizens to avoid staying outdoors due to highly polluted air in the city and all its neighbourhoods.
The measures introduced by an operations committee in the following days might include the immobilisation of vehicles that do not meet acceptable European emission standards, prohibition of sport and cultural events, the ban of outdoor construction works and instructions for schools to temporarily suspend all outdoor activities.
‘Eko Akcija’ which measures the presence of unhealthy particles in the air warned Thursday afternoon of a high level of air pollution, which carries a serious health risk to the local populations.
Depending on how the situation will develop, the authorities might declare an #alert” situation, the Sarajevo Government said Friday.
Public transportation services will introduce new lines to the nearby mountains and citizens were urged to use the opportunity to spend time out of the city if possible.
