Prosecutors in the northeastern town of Bijeljina ordered an investigation into the Sunday attack on the property of lawyer Dusko Tomic whose car and an object adjacent to his house were as set ablaze.
Tomic, who has been working on some of the most challenging cases in the Bosnian Serb majority part of the country, Republika Srpska (RS), told media it was not the first time he was attacked and accused the “construction mafia” for the attack.
He said he discovered enormous crimes committed in the construction business.
The lawyer said he was expecting attacks for months, but that he “Did not expect it to be so brutal.”
“If I ever had any doubt about my work, now I am convinced I am doing a good job,” Tomic said, adding it was hard to watch his family gather to celebrate New Years and experience this.
“Fascism has taken root, but I will continue tomorrow,” he pledged.
He said his neighbours saw the perpetrators fleeing. He estimated the damage on his property to be as high as 100,000 BAM.
