The Old town of Tesanj is placed right between the central and north-eastern Bosnia. It was built in top of a rocky hill, near the river Tesanjka.
It is assumed that Illyrians had their fortress here first, which was later destroyed by the Romans.
The architectural structure of the Old town consists of two units. The first unit dates from the middle ages, while the second unit consists of the lower town, built during the Ottoman rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The fortified settlement was built at the top of the rocky hill.
