Bosnia still lacks a solid feminist movement which would be strong enough to launch significant changes, the head of the EU mission to Bosnia said on Friday at a gathering dedicated to the International Women’s Day.
“And if I may say, the Western Balkans is a bastion of male chauvinism,” he added.

The ‘Cure’ (Girls) foundation, along with other groups from all over the country, organised a march in Sarajevo on Friday.
They pointed out the discrimination against women in Bosnia, listing violations in the field of workers rights, maternity benefits, fertility treatment and other spheres.
“This is a day when we mark March 8, we don’t celebrate it,” said Jadranka Milicevic, from the ‘Cure’ foundation.
“We want to draw the attention of citizens of not only Bosnia and Herzegovina but of the entire region on how important these issues are,” she said.
The Minister of Human Rights and Refugees, Semiha Borovac, joined the march as well.
“Instead of congratulations for March 8, I would like to call upon women to get engaged in all spheres of social and political life, to help Bosnia and Herzegovina start moving towards development and progress faster,” Borovac said.
“This is not a call for a battle with men, but simply an opportunity for women throughout the world, including in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to show how, together with their male colleagues, shared goals can be achieved much faster,” she added.
