Serbia’s member of parliament and the leader of the League of Social-democrats of Vojvodina (Serbia’s northern province) received death threats on the Facebook social network, for saying “any punishment for (Bosnian wartime political leader Radovan) Karadzic is too small,” the FoNet news agency reported on Friday.
His party said it informed the police about the threats and expected an instant reaction.
“Karadzic is not a war criminal, but you will be slaughtered,” the threat said, adding many insults and accusations of Canak’s alleged political attempts to separate Vojvodina from Serbia.
Karadzic has been sentenced to life in prison by the Appeals Chamber of the international war crimes tribunal in the Hague on Wednesday.
The Chamber judges at the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals overturned the 40-year sentence handed down by the trial chamber for crimes against humanity committed during the war in Bosnia in the first half of the 1990s.
The Chamber confirmed Karadzic participated in a joint criminal enterprise in the Sarajevo area during the war and ruled that the Bosnian Serb leader did not prove any error in the trial chamber ruling on the genocide in Srebrenica.
It also said the Appeals Chamber did not find errors in the trial chamber ruling on the persecution of Bosniaks in the Srebrenica area.
