Sarajevo on Monday named Croatia’s former President Stjepan Mesic its honorary citizen.
Mayor Abdulah Skaka and head of the City Council Igor Gavric thanked Mesic for all he has done for Bosnia and its capital as he was being honoured.
In his speech, Mesic said that people need to keep to their principles.
“That is not always easy, but I am glad that people recognise those who stayed loyal to their principles,” he said.
Stjepan Mesic was the second post-war president of Croatia and served two mandates.
Mesic has often criticised Zagreb for being insufficiently clear about Bosnia and Herzegovina's territorial integrity and has supported the idea of Bosnia's unification.
