Majlinda Bregu, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), said that Kosovo President's attendance of a regional summit in Sarajevo, announced in previous days, is exactly what the regional cooperation is about.
Despite the serious divisions that are present in the region, Bregu said for Bosnian media, the idea that “we are stronger together and divided we fail” should prevail.
Hashim Thaci is set to arrive in Sarajevo on the invitation of Bosnia's State Presidency, to attend an RCC-led summit on regional cooperation, the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP), which is currently chaired by Bosnia.
“It means a lot for regional cooperation that Bosnia and Herzegovina, which chairs the SEECP, maintains the continuity and comprehensiveness of this process by inviting senior officials from Kosovo to attend the upcoming summit,” Bregu told Fena news agency.
This is not just another opportunity for the politicians to gather, she said, but to review possibilities for stronger and closer cooperation, which is what everyone needs and what citizens expect.
The arrival of Pristina official came into the focus of attention on Monday, after Bosnia Presidency Chairman and Serb leader Milorad Dodik denied allegations of some media outlets that Kosovo was invited for the summit as a state.
“Nobody invited an independent state of Kosovo. Kosovo was invited as an undefined subject with the consent of all countries that did not recognise Kosovo's independence, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the invitation was not addressed to the leaders,” said a statement issued by Dodik's office on Monday.
Milorad Dodik, who represents the Serbs and Bosnia’s Serb-dominated Republika Srpska (RS) entity in the state institutions, follows Serbia’s stance on Kosovo, the region which declared independence from Serbia in 2008 but which Serbia still disputes.
He often compared the status of Kosovo with the status of Bosnia’s semi-autonomous region he represents, noting that the RS parliament decided the moment Kosovo is admitted to the United Nations this would mean the RS has right to secede.
