A newly discovered tourist attraction in Bosnia and Herzegovina is located south from the country's capital and on nearly 600 metres above the sea level. The Ramsko Lake and Scit village, which is home to a monastery from the 13th century, was visited last year by at least 13,000 tourists from all parts of the world.

The unique shape of the Ramsko Lake and breathtaking landscape surrounding it was discovered by foreign tourists only a couple of years ago. Since then, thousands have flocked to the area and the locals hope that tourism will continue to develop here.

“Some 13 thousand people visited the Franciscan monastery and museum last year. Both the youth and the elderly come here. If the history is life's teacher, then one should come here and learn,” a local priest, Andrija Jozic, told N1's crew.

The Ramsko Lake is an artificial lake which was created 51 years ago by the construction of a dam on the Rama river. Scit village and its monastery are located on a small peninsula in the middle of the lake.

The monastery and museum date back to the 13th century. Although it was set on fire five times, the church was rebuilt every time and today is one of the landmarks of this part of the country.

Locals who live here are fond of their home village. Despite the ongoing trend of migrations, they do not plan to leave their homes.

According to friar Jozic, the key is in studying the history and loving the place where they live.

Scit, which is becoming a real tourist attraction, has been visited by guests from neighbouring Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Poland, German but also by those from other continents – America, Australia, Thailand and China.

Each and every one of them takes some spiritual peace as they leave Scit, said the locals.
