The most important thing for the Western Balkan countries, after the election of key EU officials, is who will get the enlargement portfolio and whether it will be linked to the EU neighbourhood policy or not, Bosnian analyst Adnan Huskic, who is taking part in the Summit of Western Balkan leaders in the Polish town of Poznan, said for N1, Wednesday.
“The messages we could hear, especially from the French President Emmanuel Macron are not encouraging. Macron explained his opposition to the EU expansion by saying that Western Balkan countries would only complicate the process even further,” Huskic said, adding that “judging by reactions of other states, they seemed interested in the expansion process.”
He noted that despite the process of division of functions within the EU, the region should pay special attention to the person who gets to run the EU's foreign policy.
“This is especially important in light of the agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, where Spain plays an interesting role,” Huskic added.
The leaders of the Western Balkans are meet at the Summit in the Polish city of Poznan where the Bosnian delegation is led by prime minister Denis Zvizdic.
