A group of Serbia’s NGOs will commemorate the 24th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide this week by lighting candles, gatherings and a performance, N1 reported on Tuesday.
The participants include Women in Black and Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Serbia, supported by Skart and Dah Teatar from Belgrade.
The Women in Black will perform “We’ll never forget Srebrenica genocide” on Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the Brankov Bridge and Fruskogorska street.
The gathering “We remember the victims of Srebrenica genocide” is scheduled for Thursday, July 11 from 7 to 8 pm in the park outside Serbia's Presidency and City Hall buildings.

Also on Thursday, at the Nikola Kolarac Foundation in central Belgrade, at 8 pm, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights will perform a play “Srebrenica – When we killed arise.”
“The whole world, particularly the European Union’s institutions and the Council of Europe, commemorated July 11 as the Remembrance Day of Srebrenica Genocide,” the organisers of events in Belgrade said.
They added that “Srebrenica genocide is the worst crime after WW II in Europe. Slobodan Milosevic’s regime is an accomplice to the crime since Serbia politically, militarily and logistically helped the Republika Srpska army.”
“On July 11 a group of our activists will attend the commemoration/burial at Potocari together with the families of the genocide victims and the burial of the victims’ remains in a show of solidarity and responsibility,” the statement added.
The organisations said they demanded that Serbia:
• respects the rulings of international courts, and facts;
• acknowledges the genocide in Srebrenica, not as an essential step on Serbia’s EU road, but primarily as a sign of respect for the victims’ dignity;
• that its President and Prime Minister and other state representatives stop denying the genocide and all other war crimes in Bosnia and elsewhere;
• stops the glorification and rehabilitation of convicted war criminals;
• defines the denial of Srebrenica genocide as a crime without limited criteria;
• makes policies it creates and improves within the EU accession process which would reflect their intention to punish war crimes;
• declares July 11 as the Remembrances Day of Srebrenica Genocide in Serbia.
