The European Commission Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed greenlighted the import of processed eggs from Bosnia and Herzegovina to EU countries, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Mirko Sarovic, said on Wednesday.

He hailed the development as a new success for Bosnia and its food industry.

“Following our months-long preparations, we managed to secure this permission from the European Commission. This is a significant success as the eggs will increase the competitiveness of the fowl sector and the overall production, not only regarding eggs but also the entire food industry,” Sarovic said.

He explained that no products containing eggs could be exported to the EU from Bosnia until now and that as of this moment, “we have removed that problem” and Bosnian producers of, among other things, pasta and pastry can now export those goods to the EU.

After getting approval for the export of processed eggs, the next step is securing approval for raw eggs, but the condition is to pass a test on whether they contain salmonella, he said.
