The main Bosniak party in the country welcomed statements made by US Congressman Adam Kinzinger, who called out last week the strongest Bosnian Serb party, Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), for obstructing Bosnia's path to NATO and the formation of the government.

He said that it has been nearly 25 years since the Dayton Peace Agreement was signed but that “Russia has used this time to support nationalist politicians” within the Serb-dominated semi-autonomous entity within the country, Republika Srpska (RS), who he said were the “main belligerents of the Bosnian war that employed genocide and killed more than 100,000 people.”

He said that the reason Bosnia has not managed to form a government since the October 2018 election are “disagreements between pro-Western political parties and the nationalist Serb parties over what the relationship in Bosnia should have with NATO.”

“Staunch anti-NATO sentiment and threatened secession from Bosnia has been the staple of the Russian-backed Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) who have, in effect, been blocking the government formation over NATO accession,” Kinzinger said.

According to the Party for Democratic Action (SDA), Kinziger’s statements are on the spot.

“The statements from Congressman from Illinois, Adam Kinzinger, who very clearly reminded of the truth about the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina and very precisely determined the essence of the political process in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a battle between forces which are fighting for strengthening the state and Euro-Atlantic processes and followers of the ideology which is responsible for the genocide, who are now preventing Bosnia’s path toward NATO, were very significant and remarkable,” the party said on Tuesday.

“Help from Congressman Kinzinger is important for suppressing false fabricated images of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for true patriotic forces to unite based on the truth, so that they could together start a strong initiative for protecting the interests of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and progress in Euro-Atlantic integration,” it said.
