Bosnian Croats are not an equal people in Bosnia, which is why that country needs reforms, primarily in the form of Election Law reform, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic told the Croatian daily “Jutarnji list” on Sunday, speaking about the position of Croats in Bosnia.

“They (Bosniak politicians) must be aware that Croatia helped Bosnia the most. We were the first to recognise the country, and we took in 700,000 refugees and I'm going to tell you something I never told anyone before, except the Mothers of Srebrenica. During the worst conflict of the Bosnian war, my family not in some Bosniak refugees, but built them a small apartment to house the Bosniaks,” the Croatian President said.

“My family gave them a job and means to live until they left for their own country. It was hard work, but they were accepted as part of the family. That's why I am insulted whenever someone calls me a xenophobe,” Grabar Kitarovic told the Croatian daily.

She said that “Bosnian politicians can do whatever they want because they do not answer to her but their people and citizens.”

“I wish all the best to these people and I want to tell them that I will fight for Bosnia, for which I want to be part of the European Union, at every opportunity. I want Bosnia to be a prosperous country where all reforms will be implemented. But, I will fight for the position of the Croats, the constituent people in Bosnia, above all,” Grabar-Kitarovic concluded.
