Human rights ombudsmen: Bosnia made progress towards full children's rights

Bosnia made progress towards full children's rights over the past thirty years but certain problems are still present, the Institution of Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina said on occasion of the Children's Week observed from 19 to 27 October.

Marking the Children's Week is a chance to put children into the spotlight of all activities but also to remind the adults of their obligation to act in the best interest of children.

“Primary responsibility for a child lies on its parents, but the whole society must continuously work on seeking as efficient ways as possible to protect every child in family, school and all other environments,” said the Ombudsman Institution.

Ombudsmen urged competent institutions to work together on raising the awareness of citizens about their duties and rights, and protection of the rights of others.

“We, adults, should enable every child to take part in making the decisions concerning them, as well as life and development in a tolerant democratic society,” the Ombudsmen said.
