Bosnia and Herzegovina is “a hostage of its own political elites” which block its European future, political analyst Andjelko Milardovic told N1 on Friday.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is a prisoner of its own political groups - an oligarchy because which for its own interests and egoism does not want to get out of this situation and in this way blocks Bosnia’s European perspective,” he said, adding that political elites are “the main reason why problems are not being solved.”

Milardovic argued that another part of the reason for Bosnia being blocked are also interests of great powers.

“And then we get to alignment based on the principle of foreign powers. The Bosniaks are identifying with Turkey, the Croats with Croatia and Brussels, and the Serbs with Belgrade and Moscow,” he said, adding that "we have a clash of great powers: the USA, the European Union, Turkey and Russia.”

“While Milorad Dodik and his policies are present in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there will be no membership of Bosnia in NATO," Milardovic stressed, referring to the leader of the strongest Bosnian Serb party in the country. "One person blocking it is enough."

Milardovic named another problem for the country - a conflict within the European Union.

“Not even God will help Bosnia and Herzegovina until it fixes itself internally,” he concluded.
