The former head of EU Delegation in Bosnia Lars Gunnar-Wigemark was named head of EU's Rule of Law Mission (Eulex), for the mandate December 1 – June 14, 2020, the EU said Friday.

“As new Head of Mission of Eulex Kosovo he will be in charge of ensuring EU support to relevant rule of law institutions in Kosovo on their path towards increased effectiveness, sustainability, multi-ethnicity and accountability, free from political interference and in full compliance with EU best practices,” EU's press release said.

The decision was adopted by the Political Security Committee on 28 November 2019.

Wigemark, a Swedish national, was previously Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Head of the European Union Delegation to Pakistan.

Eulex Kosovo was launched in 2008 as the largest civilian mission under the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union. EULEX’s overall mission is to assist the Kosovo authorities in establishing sustainable and independent rule of law institutions, with a focus on the police, judiciary and customs areas and through monitoring and operations pillars.
