Bosnia's best alpine skier: Results would be better if state supported athletes

If Bosnia would do more to support its athletes, they would surely achieve much better results, the country's best alpine skier, Elvedina Muzaferija, said on Monday after she made history the day before as the first Bosnian woman to win points at the International Ski Federation's (FIS) World Cup event.

Muzaferija took part in the Alpine combined competition in Austria’s Altenmarkt-Zauchensee ski resort and finished the second run as 29th, with time 2:12:70, a little more than nine seconds behind the winner Federica Brignone of Italy.

“Although I believed that this could happen, I didn't really expect it, so when I saw the result at the finish line it was truly a feeling that can not be described,” she said.

Muzaferija said that she never got any support from the state nor from its Ski Federation and that her only support came from her parents and sponsors.

She said she does not expect much from the state and that the situation is not any different in regard to other sports.

“I arrive at the starting position, other girls have three coaches there and another five on the track, while I only have one,” she told N1.

If the state would make more of an effort, results in sports would be a lot better, she said.
