There are no specific treatments for the recently emerged coronavirus and therapy is based on clinical presentation only, Head of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Country Office in Sarajevo Victor Olsavszky told Fena news agency, adding that the Organisation's top officials are expected to issue recommendations concerning the virus after the Wednesday meeting.

According to the latest media reports, the death toll from the Wuhan coronavirus has risen to nine, as dozens more cases were reported across China, which sparked fears of a possible pandemic.

Top WHO officials are set to convene for an urgent meeting in Geneva on Wednesday, to decide if the virus constitutes a public health emergency of international concern and to agree on recommendations, Olsavszky confirmed.

The virus has been “exported” to several countries including Thailand, Japan and South Korea and China's National Health Commission confirmed human-to-human transmission of the virus.

“Based on available information, restriction of travels or trade is not justified. WHO recommends that the persons who come from Wuhan (China) should be aware of basic symptoms that the Chinese authorities described and that they should seek doctor's advice if they note the symptoms after they leave the area affected by the epidemics,” saif the WHO's official in Bosnia.

CNN earlier reported that airports across Asia have stepped up temperature screening of incoming passengers, as have several hubs in the US, including New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

With all indications that the virus has a relatively slow incubation time, however, these efforts may be insufficient to stop its spread, according to CNN.
