Bosnia's renowned intellectual and academician Muhamed Filipovic passed away on Wednesday at the age of 90, the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed.
He was born in the northern city of Banja Luka, where he had completed elementary and secondary studies, and had continued his education at universities in Zagreb and Belgrade.
He was a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Chairman of Bosniak Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Filipovic was for a period of time involved in politics. He was founder and leader of the Muslim Bosniak Organisation (MBO) and later one of the founders of the main Bosniak party, the Democratic Action Party (SDA).
During the Bosnian 1992-95 war, he had acted as the Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Filipovic taught at the Sarajevo Faculty of Philosophy. He published dozens of books and scientific papers, many of which were translated into foreign languages.
