Marking the International Women's Day, CURE foundation organised a march under the slogan “A rapist in your path,” whose aim was to stress the need of achieving gender equality and strengthening the status of women in Bosnia and globally.
The march began at the Bosnian Parliament building from where the participants walked to the Park of Sarajevo children killed during the 1992-1995 war, where march participants held a short performance.
According to a feminist and activist Vildana Dzekmen from the CURE Foundation, this is a traditional event aimed at stressing the need of creating an institutional framework and policies whose goal is to fight discrimination and segregation of women.
“We talk about it on a daily basis, and we're sending a symbolic message from this gathering that institutions must listen to women living in Bosnia,” Dzekman said.
She added that women also work and pay taxes and that they should be treated equally in all segments of society.
The aforementioned performance, titled “Un violador en tu camino,” was organized by students from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies (ERMA) and the CURE Foundation, and was joined by other women's advocates who want to draw the public's attention to the violence and problems that women in Bosnia and Herzegovina face.
The performance first held in Chile by a feminist collective #lastesis called “Un violador en tu camino” on November 25, which is marked as the International Day Against Violence Against Women and Girls.
