Covid-19 has imposed a life and work in isolation and confinement, but that is kind of a life that some are forced to live their entire life, European Union’s ambassador in Bosnia, Johann Sattler, said in a video message on the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia marked on May 17.
“Coping with it has not been easy for anyone, some of our fellow citizens are forced to spend their entire life between four walls, because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or sexual characteristics,” said ambassador Sattler, EU’s Special Representative and Head of the EU Delegation in Bosnia.
Isolation & confinement during #Covid19 outbreak is how some are forced to live their whole life b/c of their sexual orientation & gender identity. #HumanRights are universal & apply equally to ALL. #BreakingTheSilence #EU4LGBTI ?️???#IDAHOT@josattler @soc_sarajevo pic.twitter.com/izLyjnEYAQ

He urged the local authorities to ensure the protection of human rights and equality for everyone, including LGBTI.
“First BiH (Bosnia and Herzegovina)) Pride held last year was a very important event. Why? Because it started taking down those walls. Authorities in BiH should now continue with efforts to ensure the protection of human rights and the equality for all of its citizens including the LGBTI,” he said, and promised the EU support to all stakeholders to make this happen.
“Human rights are universal and applied equally to everyone. Break the silence,” he said.
