The European Parliament's permanent rapporteur for Bosnia, Paulo Rangel, told N1 on Friday that the agreement between Bosnian political leaders to finally hold elections in the southern city of Mostar is “encouraging” and “gives hope” to the citizens of this country.
According to him, the agreement was the most encouraging event in the past several years that happened in Bosnia and that it is a reason for hope for all Bosnians, the EU and all those who care about Bosnia.
He added that the agreement was a bit surprising even though he had some information that it would happen, but he had not expected it would be reached this soon.
On Wednesday, Bosniak and Croat leaders, Bakir Izetbegovic and Dragan Covic, reached an agreement on how the local election in this city would be finally held, after 12 years. The agreement also changes the statute of the city and its signing was attended by representatives of the international community.
