What happened in Srebrenica 25 years ago was an act of genocide of a scale unseen for our region and beyond. A tragedy that should never have been allowed to occur, said Albanian President Ilir Meta on Saturday, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide which took place after the Bosnian Serb forces overran the then UN safe zone, killing over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys.

“We shall never forget those atrocities. July 11th 1995 marks an important milestone for us all as we remember those who suffered unimaginable horrors in the Srebrenica genocide. We all have to look at our own thoughts and actions and how we must send a clear message to future generations.

It is our duty to lead the process of building a more tolerant generation and a society free from pain, discrimination and hatred,” Meta aid.
