More than 200 new coronavirus cases in Bosnia, State of Epidemic in FBiH region

A total of 226 new coronavirus cases and four more COVID-19 deaths were reported across Bosnia and Herzegovina between Thursday and Friday and the Federation (FBiH), one of the two semi-autonomous entities within the country, has declared a State of Epidemic due to the surge of new cases since mid-June.

Health authorities in FBiH said that of the 1,283 samples tested, 122 were positive for the virus. In Bosnia’s other entity, Republika Srpska, 528 people were tested and the results for 96 of them came back positive.

Four more people have passed away due to COVID-19 across the country.

The FBiH Health Ministry said that a State of Epidemic was declared across the entity and listed the measured that will be taken in light of the decision – “performing sanitary control at border crossings located on the territory of FBiH and implementing measures related to that control; (setting up) quarantine; providing necessary reserves of vaccines once they are available, and immunization of the population, as well as the implementation of other measures ordered by the FBiH Minister of Health or the FBiH Government.”

According to data by Bosnia's Civil Affairs Ministry on Friday, the total number of people who were infected with the coronavirus in Bosnia so far is now 7,909 and 245 people have died due to COVID-19. A total of 3,612 people have recovered from the disease.
