The election victory of the pro-Serb opposition in Montenegro has “brought out the worst in some people,” international relations expert Neven Andjelic said, commenting on a recent series of attacks against Muslims in the country.
“The election results have brought out the worst there is in some people – something they could not express before because they were afraid of the government. Now they are free to express it and that’s now the problem of two governments – the old one which is not acting on it and the new one which has not yet been formed,” Andjelic said.
The expert said that of all the countries in the region, Bosnia and Herzegovina has the best relations with Montenegro and that such a relationship must be maintained and improved further.
He argued that democracy is misunderstood throughout the region.
“Win the majority and do not respect the minority. That’s the essence of the problem in the perception of politics in the Western Balkans,” he said.
