Four Sarajevo Canton police officers were arrested on suspicion of receiving a bribe, a spokesperson confirmed Thursday morning.

The officers who worked in the Traffic Support Unit of the Sarajevo Canton Interior ministry were arrested within an operation codenamed ‘Gift 1’ and will be sent to the cantonal prosecution for further procedures.

Eighteen more police officers in were arrested in August this year also on suspicion of taking the bribe, with 17 of them still remaining in custody while one of the officers is subject of restrictive measures.

The policemen are suspected of being involved in more than a hundred felonies including the receiving of bribe or abuse of power.

Thursday arrests were carried out in cooperation with the Intelligence-Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
