The Prime Minister of Bosnia's Federation Entity Fadil Novalic said Thursday that it is a good thing people like Leonardo DiCaprio care about what is happening in our country and that he will do everything in his power to stop the construction of small hydroelectric plants on Bosnian rivers.
“I didn't think that this big world was watching what our little world was doing at all. The position I expressed is my own, I am really a big nature lover and I see what is happening in the field and especially in Republika Srpska (RS) entity,” Novalic said.
He pointed out that “this is a severe violation of nature, the damage is great, and the benefit is small, meaning – private.”
“We and I personally, have been very active in this field. I spoke with RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic and he agrees that it would be very damaging and that he will do everything to stop it. Ministers are working and we will implement decisions in the coming weeks. Nature should be preserved for the next generation, the previous ones handed it over into our hands and we will do the same,” said Novalic.
On Wednesday, Hollywood Oscar winner and nature activist Leonardo DiCaprio posted a photo of a Bosnian river urging FBiH authorities to stop the construction of dozens of small hydroelectric power plants on rivers across the country and the region which would destroy what is known as Europe's blue heart.
Asked if he could promise that he would stop the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the rivers, Novalic replied: “I can't promise that, but I will do everything in my power to stop it.”
