Politologist: Stronger US engagement in Bosnia expected under Biden

"I expect Biden's policy to be quite different, that he will in his foreign policy work to re-establish and support our traditional partnerships. I certainly expect a very different approach,” Puljek Shank said, adding that the people around Biden also have a lot of experience in regard to Bosnia.

Shank also commented on the US election.

"It is very important to find a way to continue after this because there are serious problems that need to be addressed jointly," he said, arguing that it is difficult to predict whether there will be any obstructions in the transition of power.

"Preparations for the transition of power are already underway. Regardless of Trump's rhetoric, his administration is participating. I think there are also efforts within the Trump administration to lead the transition in a peaceful way," he said.

Puljek Shank stressed the importance of the victory of Kamala Harris as well and noted that there has for a long time been a fight for women to “get their place” in politics and that her election in a step in that direction.

“Biden and Harris won the election thanks to the votes of women and African Americans,” he said.

Donald Trump, however, still managed to get 70 million votes despite everything.

"The problem is that people were willing to support someone who behaves autocratically, who works against the rule of law and norms and traditions that we have had in America for a very long time. There is a danger that there may be a new Trump who may be smarter and a little more sophisticated,” he explained.

The danger of such ideas and ways of conducting politics remains even though Trump is leaving, he said.
