N1 Bosnia reporter Ivana Eric won this year's UNICEF recognition for her contribution in promoting the rights of children, UNICEF Bosnia and Herzegovina announced on the occasion of the World Children's Day, November 20.

UNICEF rewarded four media professional in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Eric won the spot in TV category for her story on a migrant family, awaiting winter days without a place to stay.

The story follows the family from Afghanistan and their 1.5-year-old daughter Deniz, who has been a refugee since her birth.

“I am talking to her all the time. Wherever we go I tell her we're going for a picnic. We eat outside and that's what it is to her – one big picnic,” her father, Muhamed Isa, told N1.

Deniz slept at a bus station but she never took the smile off her face.

Recognitions in other categories were given to Natasa Lazukic (blog) and Azra Husaric (Internet). Zeljko Lazarevic, the reporter of ‘Otisak’ news website, won special recognition for his contribution in promoting the rights of children.

In response to the ongoing pandemic, UNICEF has launched ‘Reimagine0 campaign, an urgent appeal to governments, the public, donors and the private sector to support UNICEF's efforts to respond, recover and reimagine a world currently besieged by Covid-19.

“In Bosnia and Herzegovina, we have witnessed a heavy impact of the pandemic on children, their education, safety, their well-being including mental health, all of which are likely to affect their future and consequently human capital in this country,” said UNICEF representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Rownak Khan.

“As the situation continues to unfold that disrupts essential preventive and curative health services, including immunization services for children, this could also provoke outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Children could lose their lives due to other curable illnesses as the health system is over-stretched and we must prevent this to happen,” she added and called on immediate action of all authorities, political parties, non-government organisations, service providers, media, the international community, private sector and citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to prevent this crisis from becoming the crisis of child rights.
