Russia returns controversial icon via Bosnian Embassy to Moscow

Russia handed over the 300-year-old icon, which BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik presented to Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on December 14, to Bosnian Embassy to this country. Their Foreign Ministry said, Nova.rs reported on Wednesday.

“As agreed with the donor, the icon was handed over to the BiH Embassy to Moscow on December 23. likewise, we suggested to our partners to use all available legal mechanisms to resolve the circumstances regarding the case, including the origin of the said artefact,” Russian Foreign Ministry said, Nova.rs reported.

Earlier this month the Ukrainian Embassy sent a diplomatic note to Bosnia's Foreign Ministry demanding that the icon be returned to Kyiv.

In the meantime, the Russian Foreign Ministry said they will return the icon via Interpol.

Lavrov received the gilded icon during his two-day stay in Bosnia, on December 14.
