The fact that Jasmila Zbanic’s ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ did not win the Academy Award this year does not diminish the value of the war drama about the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide or its long-term impact, actors who starred in the film said.
Izudin Bajrovic, who plays one of the main characters in the film, said he is not disappointed that it did not win the award as “to be disappointed, I had to have expectations that may not have been realistic.”

“We did not make this film for one night and one success,” he told reporters at the Sarajevo National Theater.
“It will remain for the coming generations. It is important, it had an impact, it will be seen by many more generations to come,” he said.
“I’m not sure that the film that won the Oscar will stay important for long as ours will,” he said.
“One should not feel defeated or bitter. We should be proud of our film. This does not diminish its value,” he concluded.
Actor Alban Ukaj said that Quo Vadis, Aida? will “have a long life” and that it represents more than just a film – “but also a homage to the victims of Srebrenica.”
Ukaj said he is not disappointed but does feel that the film should have won the award.
“It was important that ‘Aida’ wins an Oscar, but this film will continue living for a long time,” he said.
“I am happy that it made it this far, that a lot of people saw it and that more will see it,” he said, adding that the film serves as “kind of a purification.”
Actor Minka Muftic said that Quo Vadis, Aida? “pointed out social injustice.”
“It will affect the course of history, political decisions. This is a film important for the world. It is very important for BiH, for this region. This is a film of sobriety, redemption, which means something to us,” she said.
Muftic also said she is not disappointed, adding she is certain that the film will “exceed all expectations.”
