Bosnian author Amila Kahrovic-Posavljak won this year's "Andric Days" literary award, presented by Vanja Sivro, Chair of the Travnik City Library Board, with a ceremonial sculpture handed over by Travnik Mayor Kenan Dautovic.
The “Andric Days” award is traditionally given for literary works published within the previous year by Bosnian authors or those of Bosnian origin. Kahrovic-Posavljak, born in 1984 in Sarajevo, is recognized as a leading voice in Bosnian literature with novels like “Smrtova djeca” and “Izvedeni iz kičme”. Her latest novel, “Škriptaji kože”, solidifies her place on the literary scene, tackling essential yet often overlooked themes.
The novel, with its intense, rhythmic prose, explores hardship and trauma while questioning the possibility of hope and happy endings. Editor Ida Hamidovic from Buybook Publishing describes her as “one of the most original literary voices in a region where we speak many languages that everyone understands.”
The award underscores the importance of literature in preserving Bosnia's cultural heritage and highlights the contributions of authors who enrich and sustain Bosnian literary traditions both locally and in the diaspora.
