The management of Andricgrad, the cultural and tourist complex in Visegrad, has officially distanced itself from recent remarks made by filmmaker Emir Kusturica regarding the political situation in Serbia. Several Banja Luka-based news portals reported the announcement.
In a statement, the Andricgrad management, which is majority-owned by the Government of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, emphasized that Kusturica’s comments reflect his personal views and not those of the complex.
Kusturica recently told Sputnik that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is surrounded by “clowns” and has, over the last decade, dismantled what remained of Serbia’s national intellectual elite. He also accused Vucic of creating “two Serbias”—one loyal to him and another comprising NGOs and the “free civic corps.”
According to Kusturica, Vucic’s policies not only polarize society but also suppress dissenting voices. He cited his own experience as a critic of lithium mining, which led to threats, including a fabricated gravestone predicting his death in 2027. Kusturica noted that neither the prosecution nor Vucic addressed the incident, implying that such silence is telling.
In its statement, signed by Nedeljko Elek, a representative of Andricgrad, the management credited the project’s realization to the support of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and the RS Government, which invested 15 million Bosnian marks (some €7 million).
“We believe that Kusturica’s personal views do not contribute to what the Serbian people need most right now—unity and solidarity around the policies of the presidents of RS and Serbia,” the statement read.
Elek further criticized Kusturica’s support for “those who claim genocide occurred in Srebrenica and label Serbs as ‘Saint Sava’s cattle’,” calling such views entirely personal.
The statement concluded by expressing Andricgrad’s full support for Vucic and his efforts to preserve a free Serbia.
Reports and videos circulating on social media show that Elek unsuccessfully attempted to break through student protests in Belgrade, where he allegedly clashed physically with demonstrators.
