At least 3,000 people have died in traffic accidents in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last ten years, Osman Lindov, the President of the Association of Traffic and Communication Engineers in BiH, said Sunday, marking the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, Anadolu Agency reported.
Members of the said Association and students of the Faculty of Traffic and Communications of the University of Sarajevo marked the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Sarajevo.
A total of 255 people lost their lives in traffic accidents across BiH in the previous year, and according to incomplete statistical data, this number has increased to 260 in 2022. Some 30,000 traffic accidents were recorded on the BiH roads this year, the most common causes of which are speeding and the presence of alcohol in the body.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina lacks good and high-quality road infrastructure, which must be at an enviable level. We must have protective, separate fences on all sections where necessary, in order to save us from serious injury and death in the event of a possible mistake on our part,” said Lindov.
He pointed out that there is no organized fight against traffic accidents at any level of government in BiH.
