Bosnia and Herzegovina is a poor country with high prices, as the average salary is twice lower than the consumer basket, which has never been more expensive. Pročitaj više

For example, a family from Mostar needs 3,300 Bosnian marks a month to cover monthly living expenses. The data are from the website of one of the world's largest databases on the cost of living, according to which the people of Mostar have the highest costs in BiH.

In the capital, Sarajevo, a family needs about 3,130 BAM a month, and a family from Banja Luka 200 BAM less.

The costs for one person in the capital are around 927 BAM, and those who live alone in Banja Luka need around 883 BAM. These amounts do not include costs of renting a home.

According to the Agency for Statistics, the average salary in the 12 months of last year was 1,042 BAM.

This means that a family of four does not have enough money to live on, even with two average salaries.

“Unfortunately, the largest number of workers, some 65 to 70% of workers in BiH, more precisely in the Federation (FBiH) entity, receive a salary of up to 750 BAM. So, the ratio of what workers earn as a salary and what their minimum living costs are is more negative than what the relationship between the consumer basket and the average salary shows,” Lejla Causevic from the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina said.
