The case of Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the best in order to understand what is happening in Ukraine and to assess as easily as possible if genocide was committed. There are numerous links between Srebrenica in July 1995 and the Ukrainian events of June 2022, said Dr. Azeem Ibrahim in an interview with N1 – the author of an independent legal study dealing with potential genocide and violations of the 1948 Genocide Convention.
One of the reasons Bosnia is mentioned so often in this case is because of the Genocide Convention being applied to the Russian Federation as well, explained Ibrahim, adding that individuals such as President Vladimir Putin or Russian generals are not considered as potential perpetrators but the Russian Federation as a whole.
He said the evidence is convincing that the Russian Federation bears responsibility for inciting genocide, that the pattern of behaviour indicate that there is the intention of the Russian Federation to destroy the Ukrainian people and its identity as a national group. Ibrahim stressed that there is also a serious risk this could spill over into a full-scale genocide.
