The Bosnia and Herzegovina Air Navigation Services Agency (BHANSA) will increase its operational capacities starting March 19 to prepare for significant shifts in international air traffic. This strategic expansion is a response to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which has forced a reorganization of global flight paths.

According to BHANSA, the agency will implement increased sector availability and expand the capacity of existing air traffic sectors. These measures are designed to maintain the stability and smooth functioning of the broader European air traffic network. The decision was reached in coordination with EUROCONTROL following assessments that the closure of airspace over Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen could last for up to eight weeks. Such closures are expected to reroute a substantial number of intercontinental flights toward Southeast Europe, including the airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Initial effects of the regional instability have already been documented. During the early stages of the crisis, BHANSA successfully managed a short-term surge in transit traffic as flights already in the air were redirected to alternative routes. While some airlines have since adjusted their networks or canceled certain routes, leading to a temporary dip in volume, EUROCONTROL warns of a potential significant increase in traffic. This surge is expected to coincide with the commencement of the summer flight schedule if the crisis persists.

BHANSA Director Davorin Primorac emphasized the agency's readiness to adapt to these global shifts. He stated that BHANSA remains a stable and reliable component of the European air traffic management network, fully prepared to safely and efficiently handle increased traffic flows along the southeastern European axis.
