A protest was held on Monday in the building of Bosnia’s public broadcaster, BHRT, by employees who are in a difficult situation since more than 870 of them will not receive a salary due to blocked accounts.

The reason the accounts are blocked is a massive debt to the Tax Administration, and according to the employees, this is the result of “the systematic destruction” of this service.

The problem of collecting the RTV fee is a long-standing one, and authorities are not doing anything to solve it, they said, adding that “BiH's public service is about to shut down.”

“Our state of BiH is doomed to incompetent politicians who value their positions the most, said Damir Smital, president of the Independent Trade Union of Workers in BHRT.

He stated the demands, which are: urgent unblocking of BHRT's accounts, amendment of the Law on Executive Procedure for the RTV fee and amendment of the Law on the RTV system.

“BiH has no alternative and will not shut down, and there is no alternative to the BiH Public Service,” said journalist Merima Kurtovic-Pasalic.
