Workers from BHRT, Bosnia and Herzegovina's public broadcasting service, held a protest organized by the Independent Union of BHRT Employees. They cited catastrophic working conditions persisting for many years.
Their prolonged suffering continues, but they emphasize that it has never been this dire.
“The financial situation is very serious, and this media outlet faces shutdown unless the RTV tax is redistributed. We are caught in the aftermath of past political decisions, made by those we trusted in elections, who are responsible for a stable RTV system,” said Zeljana Mehmedika Ciric.
BHRT employees received their last paycheck in early April. The Union stated they are uninterested in political squabbles and demand concrete steps to resolve the accumulated issues.
“Some of our employees serve both public broadcasters in the RTV building. We have no money, and the public should know the Union is not interested in political arguments. We demand urgent regulations to ensure employees receive their earned wages promptly. Our employees receive the lowest meal allowance in the entire country. Don’t play with the fate of 750 people and their families. It's high time someone starts addressing BHRT's accumulated problems,” said Edis Foco, Vice President of the Independent Union of BHRT Employees.
The employees were supported by representatives of other unions, who called for protests outside the RTV building and in front of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina if the situation does not improve.
