Employees of Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHRT) launched a strike on Thursday at 10 am in front of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly building. The action was prompted by what the workers describe as the ignorance of legal obligations, the failure to implement the Law on the Public RTV System of BiH, and the systemic collapse of the country's sole national public media service.

Speaking to N1 television, Merima Kurtic Pasalic highlighted the urgency of the situation. "The fuse has blown," she stated. "For several years, we have been visiting all the politicians, asking for the situation to be resolved, for working conditions to be improved, for wages to be fixed, and for the unpaid service time that has not been paid for over a decade. We are not the organizers of this gathering. Our parliamentarians sit in their warm seats and receive salaries that are unimaginable for ordinary citizens. This has to change. They must realize that without the public service, there will be no them either," Kurtic-Pasalic asserted.

Kurtic-Pasalic stressed that the most critical issue remains the failure to pay retirement and service contributions. "The worst for us is the non-payment of service time. There is no money to pay our service time. Half of the Federation of BiH does not pay the RTV fee, Herzegovina does not pay the RTV fee. That is why we are in the situation we are in. On this occasion, I want to thank all the viewers who regularly pay the RTV fee. They must take us seriously. The microphones and cameras are in our hands. They did not shut us down during the war; they will surely shut us down in peacetime," she warned.

In response to the crisis, BHT1 and BH Radio 1 will air a special, multi-hour program titled "Don't Shut Down BHRT," which will be entirely dedicated to the crisis facing the public broadcaster, its causes, and the potential consequences for the citizens of BiH.
