A group of academics and professors from Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an appeal to the international community, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an end to the genocide that has lasted for more than 700 days, Anadolu reports.

“People in Bosnia and Herzegovina also have no right to remain silent, deaf, and blind to the suffering of the population in Gaza, Ukraine, or anywhere else where open violence is taking place,” the appeal states.

They emphasized the urgent need to stop “the barbarity and insane killing of Palestinian children, women, the elderly, the frail, and the starving,” as well as to “free the Israeli hostages as soon as possible.”

The academics and professors from BiH said the suffering of the people in Gaza is so dehumanizing for all of humanity that no normal human being, regardless of gender, religion, or nationality, can bear to watch it any longer.

They also reminded that even among Jews there are voices raised against the reckless course of the Israeli government, which ignores the prudent voices of distinguished figures, both former and current officials.

The signatories called on the academic community to join them in condemning the barbaric killings and unprecedented destruction, and to demand that all those responsible be prosecuted before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

The appeal was signed by:

Muris Cicic, President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH,

In Israel’s war in Gaza since October 7, 2023, more than 64,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed so far.

Israeli attacks have devastated the Palestinian enclave, which is facing famine.

In November last year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide lawsuit at the International Court of Justice over the war in the enclave.
